Does my Dodge Jeep Ram 4.7L Engine have EGR?

by | May 13, 2026 | Engine Specs

When you inquire about purchasing a remanufactured engine or cylinder head for a Dodge Jeep 4.7L model engine, we always ask if you have EGR.  Sometimes, customers do not know where to look or how to tell.  We made this guide to assist you in finding out if you have EGR or not.

Dodge Jeep 4.7L EGR

What is EGR?

It stands for Exhaust Gas Recirculation.  It was introduced in some Chrysler Dodge applications around 2003-2004.  Other models followed.

It was introduced to address government emissions regulations and compliance with environmental standards.

By 2005 most models were using it.

Ways to check if your Dodge Jeep 4.7 has EGR

Engine in Car View

Where to look if your engine is still installed on the car.

Look on LEFT (driver’s side) Rear

Near the firewall, feel if a tube is attached to the intake manifold

It is tough to see the EGR Valve and Assembly while the engine is installed in the car.

It is in the rear, on the LEFT side (driver’s), near the firewall, attached to the cylinder head.

There is an exhaust tube connecting the EGR valve to the intake manifold if you have EGR.

If you see or Feel this assembly and tube, you have EGR.  If nothing is there, you do not have EGR.
