Where Does Your GM 235 Engine Mount?

It’s always been hard to decipher which block has which Motor Mounts in a given Location.  Figuring out if it is a Front Mount or Side Mount can be tough.  Unless you can see them.

We hope to simplify this by posting photos of various 235 Blocks and their Motor Mount locations.

As we sell 235 engines, it is vital we find a correct match, otherwise it will not bolt up correctly and may require modifications.  No one likes a big surprise.

Or, you can have your engine rebuilt, avoiding any issues.

We will be adding more photos once I comb through them to find ones showing the casting number.  Enjoy the List!

1950-51 Chevy 235 Engine

Casting 3692703 utilizes a Front Mounting Plate to attach the engine.  The Plate has 4 holes; 2 in the Center and 1 on Each curved end.  It does NOT have any mounting holes on its sides.

1952 GM 235 Engine

Casting 3835692 utilizes 3-Bolt Mounting Holes in the Middle of the Block.  Arranged in an upside-down flipped ‘L’ arrangement. Different than other 3-Bolt arrangements.

The other 3 bolt type is n the shape of a Triangle.

1953-55 Chevy 235 Engine

Casting 3835911 utilizes 3-Bolt Mounting Holes in the Middle of the Block.  Arranged in an upside-down flipped ‘L’ arrangement. Different than later 3-Bolt arrangements.

1955-56 GM 235 Engine

Casting 3836233 uses 2-Bolt Front Mounts in a smaller figure-8 arrangement.  A bracket attaches on either side.  Other blocks use 2-Bolt, but mount has a Flat surface.

1955-57 GM 235 Engine

Casting 3837004 has 2-Bolt Front Mounting Holes.  The mounting pad is a little wider and Flat, but not the smaller Figure-8 pad type, Bracket attaches as pictured.

1956-62 GM 235 Engine

Casting 3764476 has Two Side Mounting Hole Locations.

3-Bolt holes in a Triangle arrangement in the block  Middle plus 2-Bolt Mounting holes towards the Front.  Both located on Side.

1958-60 GM 235 Engine

Casting 3738307 has Two Side Mounting Hole Locations.
